Waymo opens robotaxi rides to the public in 3 new cities, now 14 total

Waymo opened its driverless ride-hailing service to the general public in Denver, San Diego, and Tampa on Monday, bringing the Alphabet-owned company to 14 US cities.

Tens of thousands of people in each market had already signed up before the doors opened, and Waymo says it will let them in gradually over the coming weeks.

Tesla confirms Full Self-Driving was active in a crash that killed a mother of five

A Tesla Model Y turning left at an intersection collided with a pickup truck in Batavia, Illinois, killing a passenger in the Tesla — Maggie Espinosa, 37, a teacher and mother of five. It was reported as an ordinary intersection crash.

But Electrek was able to confirm that Tesla’s own report to federal regulators says the car’s driver-assist system was engaged as it made that turn. This is part of an ongoing Electrek investigation matching reported crashes to Tesla’s redacted NHTSA data.

Bloomberg carries a piece noting the astonishing gains made by Apple stockholders during the time when Tim Cook was CEO. The cumulative gain was 2,275% – or a total return of 2,736% when accounting for dividend payments also.

The site suggests this will make him a tough act to follow, but my own view is that new CEO John Ternus doesn’t have to emulate Cook’s management of the company …
